Brisbane jazz funk & rare groove this Sunday 25th July
Created On: 18/07/10 18:51:38
quick gig plug.
For those folks in Brisbane (a new project I'm playing drumkit in):

Sun 25th July (this sun)
Kerbside Collection @ the Joynt .
Live Jazz, Funk & Rare Groove feat members from CP3 & Kafka.
A gritty rhythm section laying it down tight, with organ, rhodes and sweet jazz guitar licks and octave lines - Sunday afternoon flavours.
Kerbside Collection, a local Brisbane act from the inner suburbs, play an all instrumental sound taking influence from the West Coast flavours of the 60's and 70's - tipping their hats to music such as Wes Montgomery, Head Hunters, Grant Green, Markus Miller, Chico Hamilton - whilst trying their best to keep things moving into today's times - tipping their hats to artists such as Soulive, Eddie Roberts and the New Mastersounds, Ray Barbee, Cookin on 3 Burners, Corduroy, Bobby Hughes etc.
alongside DJ Ravi (SunnysideUp/Cutucada) spinning vinyl love (modal jazz, jazz funk, latin jazz & soul) for the in-betweens.
4pm-7pm. THE JOYNT. Cnr Montague rd & Hope st South Brisbane.

New mix in the player.

Decided to upload this great mix of jazz orientated sounds from my long time good friend Chikashi Nishiwaki (Tree_Tsuruga/Japan & remix artist for Mighty Highness' first 12"
.
He gave this to me when I got to visit him earlier in the year, and just thought it has to be heard. Recorded live on the wheels of steel at his bar that he's been running for 5 yrs - Tree cafe - Tsuruga - Fukui - Japan.
Unfortunately no play list - but enjoy the sounds ahead.
for those wanting something a little more 'tropical' tune into my favourite radio show : Happy Jazz radio with Adrian Leach & Mark Taylor. Apparently it's mighty 'hot' over there in London at the moment.
Happy Jazz radio
enjoy

New mix in the player.
Decided for something a little different to what you may be used to from the other more 'uptempo' mixes.
This one's a nice laidback, warm, instrumental beats n pieces mix for the cold winter months ahead.
Some new and old cuts from around the globe, all blended together for some 'easy listening' or 'sofa surfing'.
enjoy

Some more futurelatinjazzfunk & afrobrazilian beats with this Cutucada 01 mix (more in this series to come eventually).
I guess the amount of Japanese artists (Ryota Nozaki-Jazztronik, Toshio Mastuura - U.F.O etc) in this selection, is quite fitting - as I've just recently returned from 4 weeks of amazing adventures in Nippon.
The night I landed into Tokyo just so happened to be Shuya (Kyoto Jazz Massive)Okino's birthday club jazz session at his club 'The Room'- with special guest Patrick Forge (Da Lata/Dingwalls/Rebirth of Cool CDs etc etc), who played an amazing set.
Also got to catch Toshio Matsuura & Kaoru Inoe (chari chari) spin, and met Ryota Nozaki (Jazztronik) at his Jazztronica/Birthday session - great sessions, with impecable Japanese sound systems. Okini Ryota and Shuya!..
The highlight was hitting the pots and pans with some great Japanese players in Niseko (the Half Note jazz club)and spinning records at Tree (owned and run by Chikashi Nishiwaki - a remixer on the latest Mighty Highness 12" ) Cafe's 5th yr anniversary party. Big thanks and hello to all that came down. Was a great session!
So enjoy the selection -

Futurelatinjazzfunk & afrobrazilian beats on the Cutucada (pronounced koo-too-kaata) radio show with Paprika. Cutucada as a translation from Portuguese into English roughly means when you poke or nudge someone and say “hey check it/that out”.
Enjoy some sounds and selections of music from different corners of the globe. For listening or dancing.
