Ten years ago, in Brisbane, Australia, a group of young men were drawn together by a mutual appreciation and unusual combination of jazz, funk, alcohol and 18th Century Russian and Czech writers. The music that came forth was instantly their own, dynamic, rhythmic, quirky and soul full, thus Kafka was formed......

Barkin’Soul, aka Misha Laurent is a music lover, with a feel for all styles as long as they are well written and produced. Though his true passion lays in music of the African diaspora, which you can sense throughout his compositions. Blending his feel for the old and new , he doesn’t try to reproduce an era but inspires himself and picks the best bits to create an authentic sound. Having a hip hop background he samples his own live recorded hits and breaks, & one by one adds the instruments he feels and hears in his head.....

Ari is a musician & composer originally from Long Island, N.Y. & now living in Australia. He comes from a family that located themselves away from the mainstream, settling in the mountains for a lifestyle of quiet, no television, telephones, other kids (dammit!) but there was always the music.. His parents are heavily into sounds collected on travels from all corners of the globe. A youth spent listening to music thru rocksteady reggae, funk, african, disco, latin, electro, hip hop, classical, jazz led to a steady interest in record collecting & playing instruments....

Peter Golikov aka Peter G is a keyboardist/producer hailing from Brisbane Australia. He began his musical journey in 1986, studying classical piano for 10 years and moving to hand percussion and drums in 1995. During the last 15 years, he has performed/collaborated with countless artists/producers from Australia and abroad, including supports for Moloko, Derrick Carter, Reggie Watts, Crazy P, Norman J and a career highlight, performing @ Good Vibrations on the same stage, as the late James Brown, in 2006. He also had the opportunity to perform drums/percussion with Nouvelle Vague on their recent Australian tour in late 08.......

He plays a wide variety of music -Jazz, Soul, Boogie, Brazilian, Afro, Latin, Old school to new school, north to south, east to west, but only on vinyl! He started DJing while studying at university in 1987 before dropping out to hit the decks full time. He was based in Tokyo from '89 to '03 before moving to Brisbane, Australia '03-'04 where he met DJ RAVI (of "Sunnyside up"fame) and DJ Blair Stafford (Straight up)........

Having worked alongside some of Australia’s premier musical artists, the dynamic duo Red Bantoo are bursting onto the Australian music scene with a star studded debut. Collaborations over the years with the likes of Regurgitator, Resin Dogs and The Bird have seen Red Bantoo grace stages like the legendary Glastonbury Festival to our very own Big Day Out. Their debut album ‘Yesterday to the Rescue’, is the latest gem, released through the always reliable Hydrofunk Records. A potent fusion of Electronica, Jazz and beat driven, soulful tones, Red Bantoo are taking their captivating live show around the country on a string of album launch dates in the coming months........

Two Dee began making music in the early nighties, djing on belt-drive turntables, rapping through cheap mics into four-tracks and making beats with .mod files. He founded early Brisbane hop hop outfit Decipher with DNO (Resin Dogs). Hip hop samples led him to jazz, funk, soul, disco, house and so on. Living in Japan for three years allowed him to accumulate even more records. Two Dee has performed at the Big Day Out, Livid and Woodford Folk Festivals, as well as at countless Brisbane clubs and bars. He continues to produce various styles of music in his garage as well as doing edits and remixes.........

Gustavo arrived in Brisbane in the summer of 2005 from Sydney, where, for the past twenty five years, he has dedicated his life to pursuing and perfecting all genres of Latin music in particular Afro Cuban music, having traveled to the rhythmic & colourful Island of Cuba several times to advance his studies and passion......
